It seems that in this time of many changes, another one is happening with the first edition of the Community Word of 2022. There is a new managing editor, a former West Peorian, Brian Ludwig. He spent his formative years here. Brian is replacing Clare Howard, and assuming her role as editor.

The West Peoria News is sent by mail to all residences during the year by the West Peoria Residents’ Association and contains only West Peoria news. The Community Word can be picked up monthly in the West Bluff at various businesses and contains a wider, area-wide offering of news. While providing news, they differ and Community Word gets West Peoria happenings outside our community. Read both offerings and become aware of the many and varied activities of the larger area. The Community Word can be reached at: communityword@yahoo.com.

Meetings tentatively scheduled for January can be confirmed on the City webpage and are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in City Hall.

Neighborhood Watch is planned for Wednesday, Jan. 12 and Residents Association for Thursday, Jan. 20. Other opportunities can be found on the City of West Peoria website or the West Peoria community page on Facebook.

Recently, Kelly Abraham, long-time and active volunteer passed away. She served several terms as township trustee. Kelly had a large family; many still live in our community.

Henry Strube retired as street department manager after 18 years of dedicated time keeping our streets in good repair and cleaned. His work ethic kept the City looking one of the best in our area. Mr. Charles Hess has been hired to assume street duties, good fortune to both men.

Once again, in 2022 we will hopefully participate in and host our 50th Fourth of July parade and celebration. It was a casualty of the pandemic the last years. This event involves our whole community and brings thousands into our community. West Peoria flourishes with homes being patriotically decorated, yards groomed and parties everywhere. Be thinking and planning now on how you can participate. Volunteer. There are many available opportunities. Contact City Hall either online or 674-1993. Many families include three or more generations being involved. City Hall is already planning for the event. It can be a day-long affair in some homes.

I wish all of you a healthy, safe and special 2022. And Brian experience much success with the Community Word. If you are interested in having your organization or neighborhood activity included, contact me at mcbride2413@currently.com.
