The general election this fall is November 8,
2022. October 10 is the last day to register to vote or change your address. West Peoria residents can register at City Hall during regular working hours. Voting locations in West Peoria are the city garage at 1322 N. Hillside Ave. and the Franciscan Center at 908 N. Sterling Ave. You can go to peoriaelections.org for more information.
This is an early bit of information that the next Consolidated Election in West Peoria is scheduled for April 2023. Mayor, Treasurer, and Clerk, plus four Alderpersons are up for election. Packets will be available starting this September allowing interested West Peorians plenty of time to get signatures. The packets can be picked up at City Hall or by contacting City Clerk Mary Barnes at City Hall. Consider this opportunity and use it to help plan the future of West Peoria.
BURN BAN: The City of West Peoria does not allow open burning. Yard waste will be picked up every Friday through the last Friday in December, 2022. More information can be found at cityofwestpeoria.org. Important news for this season.
WPFD DAYS: The West Peoria Fire Department Day is returning and is scheduled from 12-3 p.m. September 18. Some new activities have been added, including the new fire safety house. Kids pictures in fire gear, fire truck rides, sno-cones, and spraying water from a fire hose. The auxiliary is hosting a bake sale with many treats. This event is a huge fun activity for our youth.
September is Fire Safety Month and Sandwich Days are scheduled for Sept. 24 and
Oct. 8. They are the final planned fundraising days for the fall. Stop at Owl’s Nest and get our lunches those days and help continue with the fundraising. Respect and caring will help the whole community.
Golfers, save Oct. 8 for the Annual West Peoria Golf Classic. Contact Zak Edmonds. Alderman, for more information. Proceeds go to West Peoria Fire Department.
WATCH OUT: In August, Aimee Shinall, Victims Coordinator for the Sheriff Department, and new Sheriff Chris Watkins, spoke about scams. Scams to watch for: include Capital One Bank, Medicare, Publisher’s Clearing House, home repair, credit card and bank statements. Be aware. Scammers are out there.
LIGHTS OUT: The West Peoria Lighting District requests that if you have a light burned out in your neighborhood that you call and report it. Present your location and the number on the pole when you call. The number can be found on a small metal plate on the pole. Contact John Walker, President, (309) 453-1490 with your report.
HELP: Volunteers help greatly in keeping West Peoria such a good place to live. One of the opportunities is with Horseshoe Bottoms/Rocky Glen. Two upcoming dates are Sept. 3
and Oct. 2. Volunteers meet
at 9 a.m. those Saturdays in
the Rocky Glen parking lot for 2-3 hours. These groups improve the Kickapoo water shed through various activities. Go to friendsofrockyglen.org
NICE RIDE: The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District was awarded a certificate of Excellence for its annual comprehensive financial report for this past fiscal year. The report was judged by an impartial panel. The certificate is the highest form of recognition to a government and its management.
