About the Word …

The Community Word has been in service to the people of Peoria and the surrounding communities since 1977. Circulation is 15,000 copies, reaching approximately 40,000 readers each month. The paper is distributed the first of each month throughout the downtown and central Peoria (Prospect to Alta Rd to Sterling) areas as well as throughout Peoria Heights and West Peoria.

Free to readers, the Word is distributed at more than 100 locations, including financial institutions, governmental offices, hospitals, supermarkets, pharmacies, service stations, laundromats, restaurants, non-profit organizations, senior residential complexes and numerous other shops, stores, and offices. Monthly publications are usually read in a leisurely mode; readers often re-read and refer back to the issue throughout the month. Therefore, advertisers’ ads are viewed throughout the month as well.

From its beginning, the Word has focused its efforts on reporting city-wide and neighborhood news as well as having a strong editorial voice, championing positive factors which contribute to the stability, improvement, and safety of residents and denouncing those which would detract from the quality of life in Peoria and surrounding communities.

Community participation in the paper is not only welcomed, but earnestly sought. To that end, many active neighborhood participants contribute articles and stories each month. The Word has always included information about activities important to readers, and strives to assist individuals and organizations in all worthwhile projects.

When will the June edition be online. Sandy Post wrote a wonderful article about the St. Bernards class of 1962 reunion and so many of the attendees are anxious to read about it. Many live out of town and are unable to obtain a hard copy paper.
Thank you so much. Look forward to reading the article
