ART EXHIBITS

  • Experience live music, local galleries, and art studios on First Friday, Sept. 4.
  • Fourth Friday at Muse Gallery in Morton, Sept. 25.
  • Peoria Art Guild Fine Art Fair is Sept. 26-27
    at Riverfront Festival Park.

SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Whisper & Shout: Open  for Poetry will be at the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria on Sept. 3 and 17.
  • The Hayloft Shops in Mossville is presenting its 44th annual Art and Crafts Fair, “Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary,” Sept. 11-13, with assorted artworks, crafts (including demonstrations of 1700s crafts), plus colonial reenactors, folk music and a bake sale Saturday — when there will be a Firemen Pancake breakfast at the firehouse nearby. Also, most merchandise, including antiques and dress-shop goods, will be discounted, and the Hayloft’s anniversary cookbook will be available.
  • Get Lit. Open Mic Night takes place at Lit. on Fire Books Sept. 16.
  • Oktoberfest will feature polka music, German food and drinks, and more at Riverfront Park the weekend of Sept. 18-20.

MUSIC

  • Jefferson Starship, with the bands Pure Prairie League and Firefall will perform at the Civic Center Theater on Sept. 10.
  • In rural Metamora between Routes 24 and 116, Evergreen Farm Brewing’s “Midwest Skies” music series is featuring Clusterpluck and New Cats Sept. 19.
  • Country artist Gary Allen at the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Sept. 19.
  • Dexter O’Neal & Funkyard perform at the Neon Bison on Sept. 19.
  • The Nathan Taylor Band will be featured with the Central Illinois Jazz Society at Trailside Center on Sept. 20.
  • Secret Sisters will play Bradley University’s Dingeldine Music Center as part of the Doris Kolb Women in Music series Sept. 25.
  • Cousin Eddie will be Live at the Five Spot at the Contemporary Art Center on Sept. 25.

COMEDY

  • Stand-up comic Michael Blaustein’s “Taste Me Tour: The Final Leg” will stop at the Civic Center Theater Sept. 25

THEATRE

  • Eastlight Theater is staging “Hands on A Hard Body” Sept. 4-12.
  • Peoria Players Theatre presents “Come from Away” Sept. 11-13 and 16-20.
  • Corn Stock Theater’s “Corn Stock for Kids” will present the comedy “Spamalot: School Edition” at its Lab Theater in Upper Bradley Park Sept. 24-27.

DANCE

  • Argentine Tango Practica will be each Saturday at the Contemporary Art Center,
    Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27.
  • Stars of Sakkara Dance Seminar & Show is happening at First Christian Church Sept. 19.
  • The Hustle for Beginners Class will be offered at the Contemporary Art Center Sept. 23.

CLASSES & LECTURES

  • The Peoria Art Guild is hosting “Paint Like the Masters” Sept. 9, and “Palette Knife Painting” Sept. 19.
  • The Peoria Public Library Lakeview Branch on Sept. 9 will have the program “Grassroots Democracy: Illinois Labor Journeys.”
  • The Bike Peoria Co-op is offering a “Bicycle Basics Workshop” Sept. 15.
