  • Visit the Robert Anthony Ketchens gallery at the Contemporary Art Center from May 1-June 20.
  • Fourth Friday at Muse in Morton, May 22.
  • Artful Journey will exhibit works by Meila Heinz from May 23-June 20.
  • May 23 is opening day for “Sculpture Walk” along Washington Street from the museum to the Bob Michel Bridge.

  • Whisper & Shout: Open Mic for Poetry will be at the Contemporary Art Center May 7 and 21.
  • Get Lit. Open Mic Night is set for Lit. on Fire Books on May 20.

DANCE

  • Peoria Ballet Co. presents “Swan Lake” at the Civic Center Theater on May 2.

Orion Weiss will be guest artist for the Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Grand Slam Jam,’ which will include material by Duke Ellington, Moody Blues, Leonard Bernstein and Frank Zappa.

  • On May 1 and 2, Bradley University’s Dingeldine Music Center will host Groove Project/Kaboom Box that Friday and the Bradley Jazz Ensemble on Saturday.
  • The Peoria Philharmonic Chorale’s 101st Spring Concert — “A Choral Kaleidoscope” — will feature music from classical and Renaissance to spirituals and jazz the afternoon of May 3 at ICC’s Performing Arts Center.
  • Music from Motown greats the Temptations and the Four Tops will be performed May 8 at the Civic Center Theater.
  • The Prairie Wind Ensemble performs at Five Points Washington on May 15.
  • Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s “Grand Slam Jam” is May 16 at the Civic Center Theater.
  • The Central Illinois Jazz Society presents guitarist Steve Grismore at Trailside Event Center May 17.
  • Britain’s New Wave band the Psychedelic Furs are playing the Civic Center Theater May 17.
  • Singer-songwriter Heather Maloney will be “Live at the Five Spot” at the Contemporary Art Center on May 29, her fourth visit to Peoria.
  • The Peoria Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present an organ recital on May 3
    at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, with Rebecca Groom te Velde, Director of Music Emerita at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Okla., performing, including the premiere of one of of her original compositions.

THEATRE

  • “My Big Barn III Wedding” will continue May 1-3 and 8-10 at the Barn III dinner theater in Goodfield.
  • Broadway In Peoria is bringing “Beetlejuice” to the Civic Center Theater from May 5-7.
  • Upstage Theatre Company presents “Somebody’s Getting GREASE’d: Murder at the Reunion” at the GAR Hall this May 8-10.
  • Peoria Players Theatre presents “On Golden Pond” from May 22-24 and May 28-31.
  • “West Side Story” will be staged at Corn Stock Theatre May 29-31 and June 3-6.

COMEDY

  • “Never Not Funny” podcaster and veteran stand-up comic Jimmy Pardo will perform this
    May 14 at Jukebox Comedy Club.
  • “Whose LIVE Anyway” improv is scheduled for May 16 at the Civic Center Theater

CLASSES & LECTURES

  • Peoria Art Guild is hosting a six-week “Beginner Photography” class beginning May 12.
  • Fine Art Society of Peoria is hosting “Norman Rockwell: Inclusion, Exclusion and Representing America” at Peoria Riverfront Museum on May 14.
