Trump administration looking to drill in protected offshore areas

Huge areas off U.S. coastline previously protected from exploitation could be opened to new offshore drilling by the Trump administration, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Targeted areas include sites along the coasts of California and Alaska, plus the Atlantic seaboard (excluding Florida, where Trump lives much of the time and has an ally in Gov. Ron DeSantis)

“The Trump administration knows their offshore drilling scheme is deeply unpopular,” said Chris Brooks of the League of Conservation Voters. “Both Democrats and Republicans from coastal states have come out against it. Trump even backed down from a similar move during his first term after bipartisan pushback.”
