The Watch: Election Commission breaks down primary participation

The Peoria County Board of Elections met April 14 with all members present.

Expenditures and the report of the executive director were presented by her assistant, Jessily Joseph, since Elizabeth Gannon was not in attendance.

The only unusual expenditure was the rental of U-Haul vehicles for the delivery of voting equipment on the Monday before the March election.  Somehow there was a mix-up with Federal Warehouse for that delivery, but they did pick up the equipment to return it to the election office.

Graphs were presented to show various breakdowns of voting in the primary:  11,300 people (51%) voted on election day, 7,500 (33.7%), voted by mail, and the remaining 15+% voted early.  The return rate for vote-by-mail was just under 60%. Since this was a primary, voters needed to declare a party; 13,341 pulled a Democratic ballot, and 8,594 took a Republican one.
