The Peoria Public Schools Board met June 22 with all members present. This was the first board meeting since May 11. The June 8 meeting was canceled for lack of quorum.

A member of the public noted the meeting agenda had not been made available as required and suggested the meeting be adjourned, as this is an Open Meetings Act violation.

Members of the public also pointed out the proposed budget had not been legally published with the required 30-day notice. Then-Vice President Paris McConnell said the budget was published, but it was later acknowledged publication had been overlooked. Budget approval was postponed.

Under consent agenda items, the board considered a $31,400 expenditure for the ELITE Summer Program, serving 30 students for four weeks beginning June 8. The program was not included on any previous agenda, yet had already commenced. A board member questioned how the program proceeded without board discussion or approval publicly. Then-President Greg Wilson appeared to acknowledge support for the expenditure had been secured from board members outside of a public meeting.

Two board members voted against approving the previous meeting minutes because the version presented did not include requested corrections. This was the fourth time members voted against minutes approval this calendar year.

The board approved updates to 13 policies without sharing the revisions publicly or reading them aloud. There was a request that policy updates again be included with public agendas for transparency. McConnell and board member Martha Ross opposed the change, citing the time required and the complexity of the revisions being too complex for the public to understand.
