General Manager Aaron Comte reported to the Springdale Cemetery Management Authority that dedication of the new Patriot’s Plaza recognizing three American Revolution veterans buried in the cemetery was held June 14.

Comte also gave a presentation on the new Patriot Plaza to the Peoria City Council. He said the Cemetery Board, Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution worked together to recognize local ties to our nation’s capital in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary. Comte said Phase II of the project would address the space and improve Soldier’s Hill.

Fundraising for Phase I of the Patriot Plaza is less than $15,000 from its goal, Comte told the Cemetary Authority.  Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant parking and sidewalk will soon conclude Phase I.  Phase II planning will begin.

In other upgrades, the Juneteenth Driving Tour debuted recognizing 15 prominent African Americans buried within Springdale.
